Tiny plastics, big problem
Single-use plastics like the iconic soy fish are used for seconds, but last centuries in the environment or landfills. They harm marine life, and potentially add microplastic to our food.

Recommendations for Venue Owners
Recommendations for Venue Owners
Holy Carp was designed in collaboration with venues in Hobart, Tasmania, where single-use plastics have been banned since 2020. Here’s how venues in the Hobart CBD provide plastic-free soy sauce:
Free Soy Sauce:
Soy sauce is provided for free in self-serve pourers in the venue.
Many customers pour soy directly onto their sushi.
Compostable Containers:
If a customer needs a takeaway soy container they get one at the counter or a self-serve station.
Many venues charge between 25-80c for containers.
Some venues pre-fill containers ahead of time.
Other venues provide empty containers for customers to fill themselves.
All other packaging is plastic-free and compostable.
Reusable Containers
Customers are welcome to bring their own reusable containers.
Other Condiments
This model can also be used for ginger, wasabi and other condiments.
